Title of the Talk: Application of a socioecological model to investigate new ladder of WASH services in schools for practical interventions to improve human health, Cape Town, South Africa
Dr Joyce Robertson Ng’oma Kanyerere is Senior Researcher of Public Health and Education at the University of Western Cape where she conducts research related to WASH from education and public health perspectives since 2011. She has 13 years’ of experience in university academic and research work. She obtained her PhD (2024) from the University of Western Cape, Cape Town in South Africa where she applied socioecological model to assess challenges of WASH services in selected schools within Cape Town of South Africa. She received her master’s degree and Honours Degree (PGDiploma) in Public Health from the University of Western Cape, Cape Town in South Africa in 2017 and 2013 respectively. In 2010, she received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Malawi, Zomba in Malawi. She is involved in basic and applied research work on public health and education from health promotion and capacity-building perspectives. Her research interests are in education, public health, Primary health care, health promotion, WASH Services, Epidemiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases. These aspects enabled her to coordinate academic and research projects. Her passion is on strengthening human capacity via education and research (Teacher education). Dr. Kanyerere is registered member of PHASA (Public Health Association of South Africa), Graduate Lecturer Assistant, supervisor of postgraduate students, collaborator and community expert practitioners, member of the Western Cape Provincial Sanitation Task Team.
