Dr Nkanyiso Mbatha

Title of the talk: Forecasting Geophysical Data Time Series Using Deep Learning

Dr Nkanyiso Mbatha
Senior Lecturer in Department of Geography at University of Zululand
Dr Nkanyiso Mbatha is a senior lecturer at the University of Zululand Geography Department. Previously, Nkanyiso worked as a senior scientist at SAWS Global Atmospheric Watch (GAW) station at Cape Point where he was looking after the instruments and also produce and quality controlling the meteorological and atmospheric chemistry data. He did his postdoc at the UKZN Physics Department, where he helped resurrect the Durban Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) instrument, an instrument that uses laser light to study atmospheric properties from the ground up to the top of the atmosphere. He graduated with Ph.D. in atmospheric physics at UKZN. His current research interests include atmospheric modeling, earth remote sensing, atmospheric chemistry and physics, data science, and signal processing.
