Mr. Mahlobo is the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation. He previously served as the Minister of both Energy and State Security. He holds a BSc Degree (Microbiology and Biochemistry) and a BSc Honours Degree (Biochemistry) from the University of Zululand. Amongst his many accolades, before assuming his current position, he was the Head of the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs. From 1995 to 1999, he was a member of the Faculty Board of Science and Agriculture from 1995 to 1999 and a committee member of the Tutu Trust from 1998 to 1999. From 2002 to 2006 he was a Director of Transformation in the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry. Mr. Mahlobo has extensive experience in the water sector, which began with his role in the Mpumalanga Department of Water and Forestry, where he was responsible for the Upper Olifants River Catchment. His work focused on water use control at mines, municipalities, and industries, water resource management protection, impact management, water quality management, and communication. This hands-on experience in managing water resources has provided him with invaluable insights into the complexities of water quality and sustainability. Mr. Mahlobo’s diverse and extensive background in science, governance, and water management, coupled with his unwavering dedication to public service, makes him a distinguished and highly respected figure.
