Title of the Talk: Selected Water Assessment Studies in Malawi; An Opportunity for Environmental Sustainability
Chikumbusko Chiziwa KAONGA, PhD   is an Associate Professor of Environmental Sciences at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) formerly University of Malawi, The Polytechnic.  Dr. Kaonga holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences from Hiroshima University, Japan which he obtained in 2015. He is a recipient of the Japanese Government Monbukagakusho   Scholarship.   He has also received a number of grants/Scholarships (either individually or in collaboration with others) including those from Japanese Oceanography Society, US Government Study Abroad Engagement Grant, Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), DAAD in-Country/in Region Scholarship Programme, ITEC India Short Course Support, IHE-Delft Global Sanitation Graduate School (GSGS) program among others. He has worked for 21 years in the University teaching Environmental Science courses. He has also served in various capacities including Head of Department for 4 years. His
research interests are in water, soil and air quality monitoring and assessment. As an academic, he is also involved in consultancies whereby he has done Environmental Impact Assessments, Environmental Audits and Environmental and Social Management Plans for different organizations. This is apart from hygiene surveys that he has conducted for various organizations in Malawi. Currently, he also works as a postgraduate external examiner for Department of Water and Sanitation (Faculty of Science, Mzuzu University), Faculty of Science (University of Malawi) and Department of Earth Sciences (Faculty of Sciences, University of Western Cape). He is also a postgraduate supervisor at Sokoine
University of Agriculture, Tanzania.
